GETTING INVOLVED – AS A FINANCIAL SPONSOR

How it all started

The Gerobak Pintar project started by the director of Kinderland preschool Jakarta,  Mrs See Mun Suparno. As a philanthropist, she has always wanted to give back to the children of the poor community and as an educator herself, what better way to give back than to give back through education. Hence, the idea of giving access to a 'library of books' came up after discussing with Mrs Lily from Hope Indonesia. After further discussion on how to reach out to the poor and let them have easier access to these books, they both decided on a Mobile Library concept. The food cart or known as Gerobak inspired them to create Gerobak Pintar- Smart Library on Cart. Using this cart, volunteers and strory-tellers will be able to push it in and around small lanes, reaching the underprivileged children in the poor community. This Gerobak Pintar program bring stories to life with animated storytellers, videos, puppeteers and interesting storybooks for self-reading. Children will have access to a wide range of books, thus polishing up on their reading skills and eventually improving in their formal studies.

"A world filled with joyful & grateful people living out of poverty with compassion for others and lives" HOPE worldwide is an International charity with a mission to change lives by harnessing the compassion and commitment of dedicated staff and volunteers to deliver sustainable, high impact service to empower poor and needy communities. ‘

Gerobak Pintar is a mobile library specially designed to be a learning resource for the underprivileged children. It is designed as a cart to be able to reach the most rural parts of the city. The 'Smart Cart' contains various children books such as story books, knowledge books and picture books in the aim to promote literacy and the love for reading among children.

The cart is also equipped with puppets to create an immersive experience for the children in story telling through puppetry.

In this video we showcase one who has benefited immensely through our Gerobak Pintar initiative.
